Your Child’s Safety Matters – Here’s How We Make It Our Priority

At Little Leo’s, the safety, wellbeing, and protection of every child in our care is at the heart of everything we do.

We understand that the childcare and early education sector is one where trust is paramount, and it’s natural for parents to have questions and concerns. That’s why we believe in full transparency and are proud to share our ongoing commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for every child and family.

Children First, Always

When your child joins Little Leo’s, they become part of a nurturing community that prioritises their wellbeing. We are committed to ensuring that all children – including those from diverse or vulnerable backgrounds – feel respected and empowered.

As a child-safe organisation, we foster a culture of safety that runs through every layer of our team. From our passionate educators and support staff to our leadership, every team member upholds the highest standards of child protection and care.

Child Safety In Action At Little Leo’s

When you leave your child in our care, we understand you’re placing an enormous amount of trust in us. That’s why we take every measure to create an environment where your child feels safe, seen and supported.

Here’s what that looks like in action:

Every team member at Little Leo’s is trained in child protection. They know how to spot signs that something isn’t right, how to have open and gentle conversations, and how to take action if there’s ever a concern.
Training isn’t a one-time thing – it’s a constant process of learning, reflection, and improvement. Proactivity and prevention are the best safety tools we have.
Every educator and staff member must pass a government Working with Children Check, which includes ongoing monitoring. Beyond the paperwork, we look for people who truly understand what it means to care for children with empathy and integrity.
Our centres are thoughtfully designed with open spaces, clear sightlines, and cozy corners – so children feel both safe and seen. We also ensure there are enough educators present, often exceeding required supervision ratios, so children are supported at all times.
Children are encouraged to use their voices here. We teach them that it’s okay to say “no,” to ask questions, and to come to us if something doesn’t feel right. Our educators build strong, trusting relationships with each child so they know they’ll always be listened to.
We see families as partners in every child’s safety. You know your child best, and when we work together, we can respond quickly to anything that feels off. We’re open, we’re honest, and we’re here to listen.
We have zero tolerance for abuse or neglect. If there’s ever a concern, our team will immediately speak up, escalate, and protect – every report is investigated thoroughly. We also have a confidential Whistleblower Policy so our team can raise concerns safely.
Our dedicated Safety and Compliance team doesn't just review policies – they visit our centres, observe daily practices, and support our teams in making sure every space stays safe. We don’t rest on “good enough.” We aim for better, always.
That’s what we work toward every day at Little Leo’s – not just with systems, but with heart.

Listening to Children, Valuing Their Voice

At Little Leo’s, we want every child to grow up knowing their voice matters.
That they are worthy of respect.
That their thoughts, feelings, and questions deserve to be heard.

We don’t just teach these values – we live them. Every day, our educators create an environment of mutual respect, where children are encouraged to speak up and take part in shaping their world.

To achieve this, we’ve adapted the National Children’s Commissioner’s Child Safety Charter as part of our ongoing commitment to upholding every child’s rights and wellbeing.

Here’s what that looks like at Little Leo’s:
